Gouging out Mt Cook's eastern foot,
the Tasman glacier, and its many tributaries, is a wonderful
ski touring playground, with a multitude of couloirs, bowels,
basins, peaks, and head-walls to explore. Battered by strong
spring nor'westers, fine weather windows are often short,
and trips are all too frequently curtailed.
